Description: This course covers the basics of managing patients who routinely wear a prosthetic eye. Surgical removal of the eye including enucleation, evisceration, and exenteration will be reviewed. It will also cover evaluation of the prosthetic and the ocular structures behind it and how to manage potential complications. Basic care and management of the prosthetic and eye will be included. In office modification will also be discussed along with co-management with an ocularist. Cases will be included to demonstrate how a new prosthetic can be manufactured from impression of the ocular surface to finished eye by an optometrist working with an ocularist.
