New York State Optometric Association Names New Executive Director

After four decades of service, Executive Director Jan Dorman prepping to hand over title to successor

ALBANY, NY, November 16, 2017–Jan Dorman, Executive Director of the New York State Optometric Association (NYSOA) will be stepping down after four decades of leadership. Effective January 1, 2018, Thomas J. Coté, MBA, CAE of Capitol Hill Management Services (CHMS) will assume the role of Executive Director of NYSOA.

As Vice President of CHMS, Tom is a certified association executive (CAE) with an extensive background in association leadership and government affairs. A nationally recognized association professional with over 10 years of experience, Tom was the previous Executive Director of the New York State Psychological Association and has held senior positions as deputy director at the New York State Association for Affordable Housing and Director of Government Relations for the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York. Tom is a scholar of the American Society of Association Executives and currently serves as the Board Chair for Empire State Society of Association Executives.

The New York State Optometric Association, founded in 1895, is dedicated to enhancing the vision care and health of the public and promoting the art and science of optometry. NYSOA is a not-for-profit individual membership organization that works with local affiliated optometric societies throughout New York State and is affiliated with the American Optometric Association.  Its members practice in a variety of settings, including their own private offices, in association with other optometrists and ophthalmologists, and in hospital clinics and health maintenance organizations. Membership is also open in special categories to full-time faculty members and optometry students.
