CE Lecture 

Speaker: Raman Bhakhri OD, FAAO

Dr. Bhakhri is an associate professor at Illinois College of Optometry, where he currently teaches the ocular pharmacology course. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. Dr. Bhakhri completed a post-graduate residency at the Illinois College of Optometry/Chicago Lighthouse in low vision and ocular disease. He then taught for seven years at the Southern California College of Optometry where he was responsible for the low vision and retina courses. He is currently a member of the Illinois Optometric Society, American Optometric Association, and the Optometric Retina Society. Dr. Bhakhri is also a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and currently serves as the vice chair of their Faculty-Student liaison committee. Dr. Bhakhri lectures frequently at the local, state, and national level on ocular disease, low vision rehabilitation, and ocular pharmacology.

CE Lecture 

Speaker: Evan Canellos OD and Harriette Canellos OD

Dr. Evan Canellos is the Director of the Brooklyn Campus Eye Service as well as, Director of the Optometric residency program at the Department of Veteran's Affairs NY Harbor Healthcare System since 2000. Named Acting Chief, Optometry VA NY Harbor Healthcare System January 2021 through August 2021 and promoted to Chief, Optometry September 2021. He is an Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at SUNY College of Optometry and is involved in research in Glaucoma and Neuro-ophthalmic disease. In addition to educating his students and residents he has lectured nationally and written several articles on topics in ocular disease.

 Dr. Harriette Canellos has been an Associate Clinical Professor at SUNY Optometry since 1993. She serves as both the director of the University Eye Center’s Referral Service and the Instructor of Record for the fourth-year internship program. She supervisors students and residents in the Advanced Care clinics. She has spoken and researched widely about anterior segment diseases. Dr. Canellos is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, member of the American and NY State Optometric Associations and a Diplomate of the American Board for Optometry. She received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2004.

Speaker: Carlo Pelino OD FAAO

Dr. Carlo Pelino is a 1994 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. After graduating, he did post-graduate residency training at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia. Following residency training, Dr. Pelino joined the clinical faculty at The Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where he holds the rank of Assistant Professor. In 2005 Dr. Pelino did a clinical fellowship with Dr. Stephen Sinclair, a highly regarded Vitreo-Retinal Specialist in Delaware County.  Dr. Pelino’s fellowship training had an emphasis on medical and surgical management of vitreo-retinal diseases.  Dr. Pelino is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Optometric Retina Society. He lectures extensively in his areas of interest (e.g. internal and external ocular diseases) in both domestic and international programs.

CE Lecture

Speaker: Diane Adamczyk OD

Dr. Diane Adamczyk is a Professor and the Director of Residency Education at SUNY, College of Optometry. She received her optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed her residency at the Newington Veterans Administration Hospital. She has been at SUNY since 1986 and has been a private practice consultant for 20 years. At SUNY, her prior administrative roles have included being Chief of the Primary Care Service and Director of Externships. In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Dr. Adamczyk is the instructor of record for the ocular pharmacology course. She also sees patients and supervises students in the University Eye Center. Dr. Adamczyk lectures nationally and internationally and has written articles, chapters and coauthored the textbook, Primary EyeCare in Systemic Disease. Dr. Adamczyk is actively involved in the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education, as both a member of the Residency Subcommittee and site team chair for numerous residency accreditation visits. Dr. Adamczyk was chair of the Evidence Based Optometry Committee, which oversees optometry’s clinical guidelines, including Diabetes Mellitus, the Adult Eye Exam, and the Pediatric Eye Exam. Dr. Adamczyk has received a number of recognitions, including the American Optometric Association President’s Award, Presidential Medal of Honor-Pennsylvania College of Optometry Recipient and the Albert Fitch Memorial Alumna of the Year of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Speaker: Brian Hall OD

Dr. Brian Hall currently practices at Atlantic Eye in southern
New Jersey, where he also is the director of its SUNY-affiliated
residency program. He holds adjunct faculty status at the
college as well. Dr. Hall was previously at Woodhull Medical
and Medical Health Center, New York Health and Hospitals
Corporation in Brooklyn, where he worked with SUNY College
of Optometry students and residents. He was named 2011
Doctor of the Year at Woodhull. Dr. Hall has spoken for the
college on many occasions, most times focusing on the use of
pharmaceuticals in eye care.

Speaker: Steven Sorkin OD

Dr. Steven Sorkin earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry. He has received multiple clinical honors and has participated in many contact lens related studies. He lectures extensively throughout the country and internationally on contact lenses, dry eyes, ocular allergies, ocular therapeutics and corneal disease. He has a special interest in difficult to fit contact lens patients, such as those with keratoconus and post surgical cases and manages many patients with complex anterior segment conditions. Dr. Sorkin currently serves as President of the Essex County Optometric Society and is a  member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians. He is also a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society. He was named New Jersey Optometrist of the Year by NJSOP in 2018.
